HMV PAs and Signings

After all the sad news about the closure of the HMV stores in Ireland, here are some positive images of the shops through the years. Many great bands, artists and sports personalities have met their fans thanks to HMV. Various PAs and signings were an important part of the stores, and I had the pleasure of working at them for many years.

So in no particular order we have Tommy Tiernan, Quentin Tarantino, Paul Harrington, Neil Delamere, Katherine Lynch, Jack L, Imelda May, Debbie Harry, Wonderland, The Wanted, JLS, The Shoos, The Aftermath, The Script, The Coronas, Stereophonics, Shayne Ward, Shane MacGowan, Saw Doctors, Paul McGrath, Oasis, Macnas, Mundy, Jedward, Leinster Rugby, Julie Feeney, Jamie Lawson, Jack Charlton, Ham Sandwich, Gift Grub, Mario Rosenstock, Ian Dempsey, Ray D’Arcy, Fight Like Apes, Ed Sheeran, Dustin, Duckworth Lewis Method, Divine Comedy, Des Bishop , Declan O Rourke, Dave Geraghty, Bell X1, Dave Browne, CODES, Cathy Davey, Cara Dillon, Bressie, Alabama 3, The High Kings, Scouting For Girls, Josh Ritter and Royseven to name but loads.

Electric Picnic 2009

Nearly up to present day, welcome to 2009. First year with my super duper Canon 5D Mark 2. What a change it was, meant I had so much head room in low light situations, pushing the speed to get as much shutter speed as one could hope for. Also the level of grain blew me away when compared to the 30D. Still had a few problems though. The focus became an issue, and turned out to be a body fault but the most wonderful people at Image Supply Systems in Dublin were on the case and got it sorted. Also my 24-70 2.8L got a knock, my poor gear gets a battering, yes, it’s true. But they got it all serviced and now works a charm. The biggest endorsement I can give of buying your equipment from a reputable retailer, if something goes wrong, you don’t have the fear of the postie losing it as it wings it way back to whence it came. Piece of mind in this game is so important.

Enough of the stick up for your local shop campaign, here’s the photos. I managed to snap in no particular order Alabama 3, Amadou et Miriam, Baaba Maal, Billy Bragg, Brian Wilson, Chic, Flaming Lips, Flock Of Seagulls, Florence And The Machine, Imelda May, Just Jack, Lisa Hannigan, Mundy, Roots Manuva, The Sugarhill Gang and The Whitest Boy Alive.
